How to choose alcohol wipes

Every wipe in this category is wetted with isopropyl alcohol (IPA); none are ethanol-based. Narrow the list by three questions: what you are wiping (skin, electronics, hard surfaces or a controlled environment), which IPA strength the job calls for, and which wipe size and pack count suit how fast you go through them.

IPA wipes for equipment, surfaces and cleanrooms

Wipe	Alcohol	Size and material	Listed uses	Packs
CleanTex 91% Alcohol Wipes	91% IPA, 9% DI water	3 x 4 in., 100% polyester	Printers, optical connectors, medical testers, small electronic parts	Foil packets: box of 80 or 250, case of 800
Chemtronics Chempad 91%	91% IPA, 9% DI water	3 x 4 in. lint-free felt	Fiber optics, tape heads, keyboards, lab and office equipment; lifts ink and permanent marker	50 per box, 200 per case (ground only)
KIC Electronics Cleaning Wipe	99.7% USP-grade IPA	5 x 5.25 in.	Print heads, platen rollers, internal electronic surfaces	100 per box, 15 boxes per case
Read Right SurfaceKleen 70%	70% IPA, 30% DI water	9 x 11 in.	Metal, ceramic, glass, tablets and keyboards; field service kits	100 per pop-up FlexPack, 16 per case (ground only)
TekniSat 70% IPA cleanroom wipe	70% IPA, 30% DI water	9 x 11 or 6 x 11 in., meltblown polypropylene	Cleanroom surfaces, pass-through items, gowning-area wipe-down	Resealable packs of 50 or 75; cases of 1,200 or 1,800
TekniPolyPro 91% IPA cleanroom wipe	91% IPA, 9% DI water, 0.2 µm filtered	9 x 11 in., meltblown polypropylene	Cleanroom surfaces and parts; precleaning before a disinfectant step	50 per bag, 1,200 per case (ground only)
Medline wipes with IPA and BZK	Isopropyl alcohol plus benzalkonium chloride	5 x 7 in.	Quick general cleaning, hospital and personal use	Individually wrapped, 100 per box, 1,000 per case

Alcohol prep pads for skin

All five pads carry 70% isopropyl alcohol and come individually wrapped. Their listings describe skin prep, such as before an injection, and removing oils and residue from skin. Compare povidone-iodine pads, skin protectant wipes and adhesive remover on our prep pads page.

Prep pad	Ply and size	Sterile per listing	Packs
Medline medium	2-ply, 1-1/8 x 2-3/8 in.	Yes	200 per box, 3,000 per case
Medline large	2-ply, 1-3/4 x 3 in.	Yes	100 per box, 1,000 per case
CURAD medium	2-ply, unfolds to 1-1/8 x 2-3/8 in.	Yes	Boxes of 36 or 100; cases of 1,080 to 4,000
Dynarex medium	Unfolds to 2.36 x 1.1 in.	Yes	200 per box, 2,000 per case
CURAD thick	Thick 1-ply, 1 x 1.3 in.	Not stated	Packs of 400, cases of 9,600

Matching the wipe to the job

Electronics and optics: the 91% and 99.7% wipes. The Chemtronics and KIC listings note that the solution dries without leaving residue; for screen and keyboard products see computer wipes.

Large surfaces and field kits: the 9 x 11 in. SurfaceKleen sheet covers more area per wipe than the 3 x 4 in. packets.

Cleanrooms: TekniSat and TekniPolyPro are listed for ISO Class 5 and higher environments; the full range of 9% to 100% IPA cleanroom wipes is under cleanroom pre-saturated wipes.

Tight spots: alcohol swabs put IPA on a swab tip or swabstick. Dry wipes for use with your own solvent are under lab wipes.

Should I buy 70%, 91% or 99.7% alcohol wipes?

Match the strength to the job each wipe is sold for, not the highest number. In this range, 70% IPA is used for skin prep pads, general hard-surface wipes and cleanroom wipe-down. The 91% and 99.7% wipes are sold mainly for electronics, optical connectors and print heads, plus the TekniPolyPro 91% cleanroom wipe. Each listing gives the exact alcohol and deionized water blend. For more detail, see 70% vs 91% vs 99% isopropyl alcohol.

Are your alcohol prep pads sterile?

The Medline medium and large, CURAD medium 2-ply and Dynarex pads are listed as sterile and individually wrapped. The CURAD thick 1-ply listing does not state sterility, so choose one of the others where a sterile pad is required.
