How to Choose Infection-Control Supplies for Tattoo Studios

Start with the part of the infection-control workflow being supported. Workstation disinfection, contaminated-sharps disposal, reusable-instrument processing, and hand hygiene require different products and procedures. The current assortment includes germicidal surface wipes, several sharps-container formats, self-sealing sterilization pouches, and hand-hygiene products, so compare each product’s intended use, labeling, size, compatibility, and package quantity against your studio procedures.

Disinfectant Wipes for Hard, Nonporous Surfaces

The current assortment includes several ready-to-use germicidal wipe formulations with different active chemistries, wipe sizes, and labeled contact times. Compare the organisms listed on the product label, approved use sites and surfaces, required wet contact time, pre-cleaning instructions, and material compatibility before selecting a disinfectant for workstation and hard-surface procedures.

Do not assume that all disinfectant wipes are interchangeable. Follow the EPA-registered product label, including directions for use and the amount of time the treated surface must remain visibly wet.

Sharps Containers for Tattoo Needles and Other Contaminated Sharps

Sharps containers support immediate disposal of contaminated needles and other applicable sharps after use. This category includes compact and larger-capacity container formats for different stations and disposal volumes. Compare capacity, opening design, placement, fill monitoring, closure or locking features, and case quantity according to your studio setup and waste-handling procedures.

Sterilization Pouches for Compatible Instrument Processing

Self-sealing sterilization pouches are available for studios that reprocess compatible reusable instruments. The current pouch family includes multiple sizes with internal and external process indicators and is designed for compatible steam, chemical-vapor, or ethylene-oxide sterilization methods. Select pouch size and sterilization compatibility according to the instruments, equipment, and validated processing procedure being used.

Sterilization pouches are packaging used within an instrument-processing system; the pouch itself does not establish that sterilization has been successfully completed. Follow the sterilizer manufacturer’s instructions, monitoring requirements, and your applicable studio procedures.

Hand Hygiene and Dispensing Systems

Hand hygiene is another part of the studio infection-control program. This assortment currently includes touch-free dispensing equipment and an ES8 hand-sanitizer refill. Confirm that dispensers and refills are designed for the same product type and dispensing system before ordering, and select soap or sanitizer according to your hand-hygiene procedures.

Bloodborne-Pathogen and Sharps Procedures

Tattooing can involve occupational exposure to blood and other potentially infectious material. Infection-control purchasing should therefore support the studio’s applicable exposure-control, housekeeping, sharps-disposal, and decontamination procedures rather than relying on category placement alone. Requirements can vary by employment arrangement and jurisdiction, so verify the workplace and local rules that apply to your operation.

Plan for Studio and Repeat Purchasing

When supplying individual artists, multiple stations, or high-volume studios, confirm disinfectant usage, required contact times, sharps-container capacity, sterilization-pouch sizes, hand-hygiene system compatibility, number of workstations, and replenishment frequency before ordering.

For larger or multi-product purchases, add products to a quote from their product pages, or build your shopping cart and convert it to a quote. Review the products and quantities you need, then submit your request through Harmony’s website.
