What are tacky mats used for?

Adhesive mats also called sticky mats or tacky mats, prevent dust, dirt, and other contaminants from entering your cleanroom. Tacky mats trap debris as you walk across them.

Tacky mats are best installed in front of your cleanroom's door and within the staging area of your cleanroom. The mats should be long enough to clean both shoes. Ideally, the mat is long enough so the cleanroom operators can naturally walk through the adhesive mat. Otherwise, it may be best to position your cleanroom mat as a doormat.

Before installing your tacky mat, ensure the floor is clean. High-purity isopropyl alcohol will remove old adhesives and contaminants, allowing you to securely fasten your new sticky mat.

Adhesive mats have 30 layers of sheets. Once the top layer is soiled, slowly pull the tab and roll the dirty mat. Dispose of the old sheet carefully. The goal is to minimize dust and debris from flying into the air.

How often should tacky mats be changed?

Tacky mats work to reduce contamination from entering a cleanroom. There are five steps in changing a tacky mat, also called an adhesive or sticky mat.

Remove the old layer - Peel back the mat slowly to minimize contaminants entering the air.
Prep the area - Clean the floor with clean water and 70% isopropyl alcohol. This will remove residue from the previous mat.
Placement - Tacky mats are ideally placed vertically to the door, allowing operators to place both feet on the mat.
Floor adhesive - Remove the bottom sheet and stick the tacky mat firmly to the floor, ensuring all air bubbles are released by pressing your hand back and forth with steady pressure.
Remove protective film - The first layer is only a protective film and must be removed to expose the adhesive layers.

What are tacky rollers?

Tacky rollers are similiar to paint rollers, except that instead of rolling paint, you are applying a sticky polyethylene sheet onto a surface. The adhesive sheet removes particulate matter from a surface in a cleanroom environment. Tacky rollers can be used on floors, ceilings, and walls in critical environments. They effectively remove particles from flat, textured, and uneven surfaces.
