Disposable Respirators
Disposable Respirators
General disposable respirator precautions
The following are some of the precautions that people should consider before wearing a disposable respirator. For example, stores require a cloth face mask to be worn over respirator valves.
Mindfully dispose of the respirator and sanitize with Purell if you came in contact with the exterior of the mask.
Wash your hands, whether or not hand sanitizer is available, to be safe.
Contact a product specialist at Harmony is you need to find a mask that fits your application.
What is the difference between a surgical mask and an N95 respirator mask?
A surgical mask or cloth face mask is a disposable loose-fitting piece of clothing that creates a barrier between the wearer and bodily fluids, infectious droplets.
Respirator masks such as an N95 or KN95 are designed to fit the wearer's nose and mouth perfectly to filter all airborne particles. These devices are frequently used in healthcare facilities for medical professionals at the frontline of dealing with respiratory illnesses. The significant difference between surgical masks and respirators lies in their usage and protection levels. No matter the type of personal protective device you use, always ensure that your respirator is always fresh. The respirator should also be able to protect you from any airborne infection.
Do you need an N95 mask?
Check your hazard's label to see which specific mask you need. For pesticide protection, a label should indicate whether a NIOSH approved N, P, or R filter will protect you. For example, if it says "Any NIOSH Approved P respirator" then you may choose either a P95, P99, or P100 mask to be protected.
Filter TypeN: not suitable for use with oil-based contaminants
R: Limited oil protection. Not suitable for more than 8 hours of use.
P: Oil-Proof. Suitable protection for oil-based contaminants.
Filter Efficacy
95: Filters 95% of particles
99: Filters 99% of particles
100: Filters between 99.7% and 99.9% of particles.
Why do disposable respirators have different styles?
N95 masks have different styles, but they all provide the same graded level of efficient protection. Whether you buy a Moldex, 3M, or Duramask they all abide by the same NIOSH guidelines. Many find a larger breathing chamber to be comfortable for all-day use, useful for a socially distant office. Some 3M masks have an aluminum nose clip that adjusts for a secure seal with nose foam for extra comfort. Models with a Breather valve makes it comfortable for workers to exhale for cool respiration, but the valve must be covered with a cloth mask for grocery shopping, air travel, etc. Even Fauci says that two is better than one!
